CytoPure™ XF is a fibrinogen-depleted, xeno-free human platelet lysate used in place of fetal bovine serum to expand primary human cells.
It is manufactured in the United States from human platelet units collected at FDA-licensed, AABB-accredited U.S. blood centers, pooled from typically more than 300 donors per lot. No animal-derived component is used at any stage of manufacture. Because the product is fibrinogen-depleted, it does not form gel or fibrin strands in culture and no supplemental heparin is required.
Every lot is released against a published specification and ships with a lot-specific Certificate of Analysis.

Using CytoPure™ XF
- Start at 5% (v/v) for MSCs. Add CytoPure™ XF to your basal medium at 2–10% (v/v). 5% is the recommended starting point for primary human mesenchymal stromal cells, and the concentration used in the published Cytologics performance data. Titrate to your own cell type and endpoint.
- Keep your basal medium. Validated in DMEM (low and high glucose), α-MEM, RPMI-1640 and DMEM/F-12, and compatible with other standard basal media.
- Supplement as your protocol requires. Add L-glutamine, antibiotics and growth factors as usual. Complete medium may be held for up to 30 days at 2–8°C.
- Skip the heparin. CytoPure™ XF is fibrinogen-depleted, so adding heparin is unnecessary and introduces a variable into the workflow.
Storage and handling
- Store at ≤ −20°C, or at −80°C for storage beyond 12 months.
- Thaw in a 37°C water bath until no ice remains, then mix by gentle inversion. Do not thaw overnight at room temperature or at 2–8°C.
- Aliquot on first thaw into single-use volumes and return the aliquots to ≤ −20°C. CytoPure™ products have been evaluated through three freeze-thaw cycles with less than 5% loss of total protein.
- Do not filter undiluted. If filtration is required, dilute CytoPure™ XF into complete medium first, then filter the complete medium.
CytoPure™ XF is a clear to slightly opalescent amber liquid, and color varies between lots with the donor pool. Visible particulates may appear after thawing or during cold storage; this is normal and does not indicate product failure. Particulates may be dispersed by centrifugation at 2000 × g for 8 minutes, or by brief incubation at 37°C.
What ships with your order
Every shipment includes the CytoPure™ XF bottles you select and a lot-specific Certificate of Analysis. Each lot is released against defined specifications for pH, osmolality, total protein, sterility, mycoplasma, endotoxin, cell growth verification and donor viral testing.
